英国フォントに敬愛の意を込めて仕立てた、SANS-SERIFオリジナル「UK FonTote」。

ロンドン地下鉄の書体を手がけた エドワード・ジョンストンの〈Johnston Sans〉、そして後を継いだ エリック・ギルの〈Gill Sans〉。20世紀の英国を代表する2つの書体を用い、デザインはカーニング（文字間の調整）をモチーフにしたタイポグラフィであしらっています。それぞれの書体制作者が活躍した地名や製作年を組み合わせた、普段使いの軽やかなトートバッグです。

エドワード・ジョンストンが手がけた Johnston Sans は、1916年に ロンドン地下鉄の公式書体として制定されました。彼はサセックス州の小さな芸術村ディッチリングを拠点に、書道教育と創作活動を通してこの書体を完成。世界初の「都市のためのコーポレートフォント」として、今なおロンドンの街を象徴する存在となっています。

SANS-SERIFは、革新性と普遍性を宿す英国書体に敬意を払い、その精神をバッグのデザインに込めています。

形状は、従来人気の縦長CTカジュアルトートをベースに、緩やかなカーブを加えて柔らかな印象へとアップデート。シンプルながらも洗練された存在感を放ちます。

製法はこれまで通り、創業80年以上の国内バンドバッグ工場の職人が一点ずつ縫製。
素材には国産11号キャンバス・綿オックス・レーヨン裏地による三層構造を採用し、軽さと堅牢さを兼ね備えています。持ち手は姫路のスムースレザーを使用し、共生地のキャンバスを重ねて縫い合わせています。

歴史ある英国書体と日本の職人技が融合した、SANS-SERIFのオリジナルトートバッグです。

内装には機能的なポケットを装備。

繊細なプロダクトですので、洗濯は型くずれの原因にもなることから、原則お勧めいたしておりませんが、帆布生地が汚れた場合は、薄めた中性洗剤をつけたやわらかい布で叩いて落としてください。帆布は多少色落ちする事がありますのでご注意ください。

Crafted with deep respect for British typography, this is SANS-SERIF’s original UK FonTote.

It features two typefaces that defined 20th-century Britain: Johnston Sans by Edward Johnston, designer of the London Underground typeface, and Gill Sans by Eric Gill, his successor. The design takes inspiration from kerning—the adjustment of spacing between letters—expressed through refined typographic details. Each tote also incorporates the names of places and production years associated with these iconic type designers, resulting in a lightweight and versatile bag for everyday use.

Johnston Sans, designed by Edward Johnston, was commissioned in 1916 as the official typeface of the London Underground. Johnston was based in the small artistic village of Ditchling, East Sussex, where he taught calligraphy and developed his work. It became the world’s first corporate typeface created for a city, and it continues to stand as a symbol of London to this day.

At SANS-SERIF, we honor the innovation and timelessness embodied in this typeface, reflecting its spirit within our bag designs. By carrying with it the history behind the letters, each product brings a new sense of meaning and value to everyday life.

The shape is based on our popular vertical CT Casual Tote, updated with a gentle curve for a softer silhouette. Simple yet sophisticated, it radiates understated elegance.

As with all our creations, every piece is carefully sewn by skilled craftsmen at a domestic bag workshop with over 80 years of history. The bag uses a three-layer structure combining Japanese-made No.11 canvas, cotton oxford, and rayon lining, achieving both lightness and durability. The handles are made from smooth Himeji leather reinforced with layered canvas for strength and comfort.

Blending historic British typefaces with Japanese craftsmanship, the UK FonTote is a unique item that brings individuality and beauty into your everyday life.
