It features two typefaces that defined 20th-century Britain: Johnston Sans by Edward Johnston, designer of the London Underground typeface, and Gill Sans by Eric Gill, his successor. The design takes inspiration from kerning—the adjustment of spacing between letters—expressed through refined typographic details. Each tote also incorporates the names of places and production years associated with these iconic type designers, resulting in a lightweight and versatile bag for everyday use. Gill Sans, created by Eric Gill, was designed in 1928 after he moved to Pigotts in Speen, Buckinghamshire. Within the community he built together with his family and apprentices, and through close collaboration with the Monotype Corporation, the typeface took shape. It was later adopted as the official typeface of the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER), spreading its influence across Britain.
